Working and sporting dogs are often the ones an owner is most reluctant to experiment with on diet, because a bad reaction costs training time as well as comfort - which is why a working-dog food naming a specific carbohydrate and protein source, rather than a vague "cereal blend", is worth more here than it would be on a standard pet food. Skinner's Field and Trial salmon recipe is built that way.

Brown rice leads the recipe at 40.3% and salmon meal at 26%, with naked oats, whole linseed, peas and beet pulp making up the rest, alongside added glucosamine at 350mg/kg and chondroitin sulphate at 150mg/kg for joint support, plus MOS and FOS prebiotics at 500mg/kg each. Protein comes out at 25%, fat at 12%, crude ash at 8% and omega-3 at 1.55%. Skinner's describe it as wheat-free.

On "wheat-free" versus "grain free". This recipe contains naked oats, which is a grain even though it is not wheat - so despite carrying a grain-free label elsewhere in Skinner's range description, this recipe is more accurately wheat-free than fully grain-free. Worth checking with a vet if your dog's sensitivity has specifically been traced to grain rather than wheat.
