Skinner's Field & Trial dog food

Skinner's Field & Trial is a working dog food range, built around higher-energy recipes for active and working dogs alongside more standard maintenance formulas. We stock dry foods across puppy, junior, maintenance and working-strength recipes, plus a wet variety pack and several treat lines.

The dry food range

At the higher-energy end there's Working 23, Working 26 and Working 30 — the numbers referring to protein percentage, with 30 aimed at genuinely hard-working dogs needing the most energy-dense food. Maintenance and Maintenance Adult Working Dog sit lower in energy for dogs with a less demanding routine, while hypoallergenic options in chicken, duck, salmon and turkey with rice suit dogs with a known sensitivity.

For younger dogs there's a Puppy Junior Lamb and Rice recipe and a Puppy & Junior Duck and Rice option, alongside Skinner's Puppy Milk for very young puppies. A Light Senior formula covers older or less active dogs at the other end of life stage.

Treats, wet food and grain-free options

The treat side includes Cognitive Training Treats, Dental and Digestive Treats, Joint and Conditioning Treats and a Salmon Recovery Bar, each aimed at a specific purpose rather than being a general biscuit. There's also a Wet Adult Working Dog Variety 12-pack for owners who feed wet alongside dry, and grain-free recipes in chicken & sweet potato and salmon & sweet potato for dogs kept off grain.

Ruff & Ready, a simpler recipe under the same Skinner's name, sits apart from the Field & Trial range as a more everyday option rather than one built around working energy needs.

Who this range suits

This range suits working and genuinely active dogs whose energy needs are higher than an average pet dog's, as well as owners who want a wider spread of protein percentages to match a dog's actual activity level rather than one general adult formula for every dog.

For a dog with lower energy needs, a maintenance-level recipe rather than one of the higher Working formulas is the better starting point — feeding a working-strength food to a dog who doesn't need that much energy can lead to unwanted weight gain.

Common questions

What do the numbers mean on Skinner's Working 23, 26 and 30?
They refer to the protein percentage in each recipe, with Working 30 the highest and aimed at dogs with the greatest energy demands, such as genuinely hard-working gundogs. A dog with lower energy needs is generally better suited to Maintenance or one of the lower Working numbers.
Is Skinner's Field & Trial suitable for a normal pet dog, or only working dogs?
The Maintenance and hypoallergenic recipes suit a typical pet dog with an average activity level, while the higher Working numbers are formulated for genuinely active or working dogs. Match the recipe to your dog's actual energy needs rather than assuming a working-branded food is always the better choice.
What's the difference between Skinner's Field & Trial and Skinner's Ruff & Ready?
Ruff & Ready is a simpler, more everyday recipe under the same Skinner's name, while Field & Trial is built specifically around working and higher-energy formulations. Which suits your dog depends on their activity level rather than one being a straightforward upgrade on the other.
Can puppies eat Skinner's Field & Trial food?
Yes, there are dedicated puppy and junior recipes, including a lamb and rice and a duck and rice option, plus a puppy milk for very young puppies. Choose the puppy-specific formula rather than an adult or working recipe for a growing dog.
