Is Autarky a grain-free brand?

It offers both — a standard range with grain-based carbohydrates and a separate grain-free line in several proteins. Grain-free isn't necessary for most dogs without a diagnosed sensitivity, so which one suits your dog depends on their individual needs rather than the brand's marketing.

Is Autarky suitable for a dog with a sensitive stomach?

The grain-free range, including the Tasty White Fish & Potato recipe, is aimed at dogs who may be sensitive to more common proteins or grain. It isn't a prescription diet, so a dog with a diagnosed digestive condition should still be fed on your vet's specific advice.

Does Autarky make a puppy food?

Yes, there's a puppy/junior formula in the range alongside the adult and senior recipes. As with any brand, check the specific recipe's life-stage guidance against your puppy's current age and size.

How do I know if Autarky suits my dog?

The best test is introducing it gradually alongside their current food and watching how they get on over a week or two, rather than relying on general reviews. A dog that settles well, keeps a good appetite and has normal stools is generally getting on fine with a food.

Autarky dog food

Autarky is a UK dry dog food brand covering both standard and grain-free recipes across puppy, adult and senior life stages. We don't run a separate reviews page for the brand — what follows is what the range actually contains, so you can judge it against what your dog needs rather than a star rating.

What's in the Autarky range

The standard range includes recipes like Adult Delicious Chicken and Mature Lite Succulent Salmon, aimed at everyday adult and older dogs without a specific dietary sensitivity. Alongside that sits a grain-free line — Adult Dog Grain Free in Lamb, Salmon and Chicken — for owners specifically looking to avoid grain-based carbohydrates.

There's also a puppy/junior formula and a Tasty White Fish & Potato grain-free recipe, which covers dogs with a suspected sensitivity to more common proteins like chicken or beef. As with any brand, which recipe suits your dog depends on their age, size and any known sensitivities rather than the brand name alone.

Standard versus grain-free — what actually changes

Grain-free doesn't mean lower-carbohydrate by default — it usually means the carbohydrate source is something other than wheat, corn or rice, such as potato, and it isn't necessary for the vast majority of dogs without a diagnosed grain sensitivity. It's a genuine option for a dog that has struggled with grain-based food specifically, rather than a universal upgrade.

The standard range is a perfectly complete, balanced diet for a dog without any known sensitivity, and there's no nutritional reason to default to grain-free unless your dog has a specific reason to need it.

Choosing a recipe

If your dog does well on their current food, there's no need to switch brands based on reviews alone. If you're moving to Autarky because of a suspected sensitivity, introduce the new food gradually over several days and watch how your dog's stools and energy respond, and speak to your vet if a switch doesn't settle within a week or two.

Price and pack size aside, the practical difference between recipes within the range comes down to protein source and whether grain is included, so start from whichever of those your dog needs rather than picking whatever happens to be cheapest or most visible on the shelf.
