Most grain-free dog foods lean on chicken or turkey, so a fish-based recipe is worth a second look the moment a dog can't have either — not because fish is trendy, but because it's one of the few alternatives actually on the shelf.

This is a complete grain-free food using potato and sweet potato in place of cereal, with fish supplying the protein instead of poultry. Protein sits at 27%, fat at 13%, crude fibre at 3% and crude ash at 8.5%. Glucosamine and marine algae (a source of omega-3 DHA) are both in the ingredient list, alongside yeast for mannan oligosaccharides.

On the fish. The label guarantees a minimum of 26% white fish meal and 8% freshly prepared fish — so the bulk of the fish content is meal, a more processed form, with only a smaller share being the fresh fish the name leads with. That's a normal way to build a fish recipe, but worth knowing if "fresh fish" was the specific reason for choosing it.

Who it's for: working or sporting dogs that need a grain-free diet built on fish rather than poultry, whether that's an allergy, an intolerance, or just a change from chicken.
