Full description

A working or active dog burns through a day differently to one that spends it on the sofa, and the practical difference in a bag of food is usually calcium and protein pitched a little higher to match muscle and bone under more regular load.

This recipe is built on wholegrain wheat and a poultry meal at 12.5% (including 11% chicken), with a meat and bone meal contributing a further 4% beef. Calcium sits at 2.4%, notably higher than a standard maintenance food, alongside soya bean meal and dried peas.

Poultry meal 12.5% (including chicken 11%), plus meat and bone meal (including beef 4%)
Crude protein 25%, crude fat 9%, crude fibre 2%, crude ash 10%
Calcium 2.4%, aimed at supporting bone and teeth in an active dog
Developed specifically for working dogs
Daily feeding: 145-305g for a 5-15kg dog up to 555-685g for a 30-40kg dog
12.5KG bag

One thing worth knowing. This card records the product at 0% VAT, which is unusual for a standard dog food and worth checking if it matters to your own accounting — most complete dog foods on this site carry the standard rate.

Who it's for: owners of a working or genuinely active dog needing a bit more protein and calcium than a sedentary pet requires, rather than a general low-activity maintenance food.

Why we chose it

The calcium figure is unusually high for a maintenance food, which fits a dog putting real, repeated load through its bones and joints rather than one that's mostly resting. It's also a straightforward wheat-and-poultry-meal recipe rather than anything exotic, which keeps it priced sensibly for a dog that goes through a lot of it.
