Horse and pony treats
We are not a dedicated equestrian shop, but our smallholding and country-pet aisle carries a small selection of horse and pony treats — Mr Johnson's Horse Treats among them. If you keep horses alongside dogs, cats or small pets and want to add a treat to the same order, this is what we currently have; it is a short list rather than a full equestrian range.
You might also want to browse natural chews for dogs, puzzle and enrichment toys and healthy cat treats.
What we carry, and what this range is not
Our stock is built around dogs, cats, small pets, birds, fish and reptiles, so the handful of horse and pony treats we carry sit within our wider small-pet and smallholding aisle rather than a dedicated equine section. If you are looking for a full range of feed, grooming and equestrian equipment, a specialist equestrian retailer will have far more choice than we do.
What we do offer is worth having for exactly the kind of order where a horse treat is a small add-on rather than the main event — alongside chicken feed, small pet forage or a dog's usual order, for instance, rather than as a standalone equestrian shop.
Giving treats sensibly
Treats should stay a small addition to a horse or pony's diet rather than a regular substitute for proper feed, in the same way treats work for any animal — a nice extra, not a meal replacement. Offer them by hand carefully, flat-palmed, or drop them into a feed bowl if your horse or pony is prone to nipping.
If your horse or pony has any dietary restriction — laminitis-prone, overweight, or on a vet-prescribed diet — check with whoever manages that diet before adding any treat regularly, since even a small daily extra adds up over time for an animal prone to weight or metabolic issues.

Common questions
- Does Giddy Pets stock a full range of horse feed?
- No. We are a specialist in dogs, cats, small pets, birds, fish and reptiles, and our horse and pony offering is limited to a small selection of treats within our smallholding aisle rather than a dedicated equestrian range. A specialist equestrian retailer will carry far more choice.
- Can I give my pony treats every day?
- In small amounts, yes, most healthy ponies can have an occasional treat without issue, but it should stay a small addition rather than a daily habit that adds up. If your pony is prone to weight gain or a metabolic condition like laminitis, check with whoever manages their diet first.
- How should I offer a treat to a horse safely?
- Hold your hand flat with the treat on your palm rather than pinched between fingers, which is safer for both of you. If your horse or pony tends to nip or grab, dropping the treat into a feed bowl or bucket avoids the risk entirely.
- Are horse treats safe to store with other pet food?
- Yes, there is nothing unsafe about storing them alongside dog, cat or small pet food, as long as everything is kept in a dry, pest-proof container as the packaging directs. Just keep treats meant for one species away from another animal that might help themselves to them.
