Why owners choose grain-free
Some cats do genuinely react to grain in their diet, showing up as digestive upset or skin issues, and a grain-free recipe is one of the things a vet might suggest trying as part of working out what's behind it. For most cats without a known sensitivity, grain isn't inherently a problem — it's simply one ingredient choice among several reasonable ones.

Switching a cat's food
Change any cat's food gradually over a week or so, mixing increasing amounts of the new food into the old, rather than swapping overnight — cats are notoriously prone to digestive upset and outright refusal when a diet changes too fast.
If you're switching because of a suspected sensitivity, keep a note of what changes and when, and involve your vet if things don't settle within a week or two — grain-free alone isn't guaranteed to fix every digestive issue.
