A cat that grooms itself several times a day swallows a share of whatever it grooms off, and most of it passes through without anyone noticing — until it doesn't, and it comes back up on the carpet instead.

IAMS build this recipe around fibre rather than a single "hairball" ingredient: dried beet pulp and powdered cellulose sit in the mix at 4.3% each, working as insoluble fibre that helps carry swallowed hair through. It is a complete and balanced dry food for adult and senior cats aged 1 year and over, with dried chicken and turkey making up the bulk of the recipe — 23% of it chicken — plus a further 10% fresh chicken, so protein is animal-led rather than topped up with filler.

• 100% complete and balanced dry food for cats aged 1 year and over
• Protein 35%, fat 14%, crude fibre 6.9%, crude ash 6.7%
• 88% of the protein is animal-based, from dried and fresh chicken and turkey
• Dried beet pulp and powdered cellulose (4.3% each) for insoluble fibre
• Wheat-free recipe, made in a factory that also handles wheat
• 2KG bag

On the wheat-free claim. This recipe is labelled wheat-free, with the usual asterisk: made in a factory that also handles wheat, which matters if your cat has a diagnosed wheat allergy rather than a general sensitivity. It is not a grain-free food — maize is on the composition list — and an earlier listing on this site describing it as grain-free was wrong.

Who it's for: owners of an adult or senior cat that's started bringing hairballs back up, who want a wheat-free biscuit built around fibre rather than a single flavour promise.
