James Wellbeloved Adult Dry Dog Food Fish & Rice

Fish is one of the more common choices when a dog reacts badly to the usual poultry or red meat proteins, partly because it is genuinely different from anything a dog is likely to have eaten before, which can matter with a suspected allergy. James Wellbeloved's fish recipe uses it as the sole named animal protein.

Dried fish protein makes up 20% of the recipe, with barley, naked oats, brown and white rice at 13% each, whole linseed at 3.9%, fish stock and fish oil providing further fish content, and poultry fat used for the fat component. As with the range, it excludes beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat. Protein comes out at 22.4%, fat at 11.5%, crude ash at 7.6% and crude fibre at 2.7%, with omega-3 at 1.6% and energy at 360 kcal per 100g.

On the fat source. Unlike James Wellbeloved's duck recipe, this one uses poultry fat rather than an all-fish fat source - poultry is not on the excluded list, so it is consistent with their allergen claims, but worth knowing if you are trying to avoid poultry entirely rather than just the named protein.
