A bungee section in a lead does one thing and does it for both of you: it takes the shock out of the moment a dog hits the end of it. That is easier on a dog's neck and shoulders, easier on your own arm, and noticeably better if you walk a dog who lunges at squirrels without warning.

Halti build this one to be used with or without the bungee, so it adapts rather than committing you. There is a clip at each end, which means it can be double-ended on one dog for training, run at different lengths, or used to walk two dogs at once. It has a close control handle further down for the moments you need the dog beside you, and the length adjusts — at maximum it is approximately 2 metres. Halti have been making walking gear since 1979.

• Clips at both ends for dual attachment or two dogs
• Shock-absorbing bungee section, usable or bypassed
• Close control handle
• Adjustable length, approximately 2 metres at maximum
• Green

The weight guidance we hold is for the small lead, not this one. Halti publish a figure for their small lead and nothing against the large, so we cannot tell you a weight limit for this size — if your dog is a strong puller and you are near the top of what a lead should take, ask us to check with Halti before you order. And one general point about bungee leads: the give that protects a dog's neck also means a lunging dog travels a little further before they stop, so they are not the lead for walking somewhere a fixed distance is what keeps everyone safe, like a narrow pavement beside traffic.

Who it's for: owners of a dog who pulls in bursts rather than constantly, people who walk two dogs, and anyone who wants a training lead that can be shortened without being swapped.
