A small dog on an 8m cord can cover more ground than its owner expects, which is exactly the point of a longer lead rather than a design oversight.

This is the Small size in flexi's New Classic Cord range, an 8m lead rated for dogs up to 12kg, in black, red or blue. The reflective protector belt and braking mechanism are the same as the larger sizes in the range, scaled down for a smaller dog.

On choosing the right size. This is the Small (SML) size rated to 12kg — flexi make the same New Classic Cord in Medium and other sizes rated for heavier dogs, so check the weight rating rather than assuming by the cord length alone, since an 8m cord is available across more than one size.
