Harnesses are sized by the chest (girth) — the measurement around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.

How to measure

Stand your pet up squarely.
Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
Keep two fingers under the tape so the fit is snug, not tight.
If your pet is between sizes, choose the larger one.

A dog loose in a moving car is a genuine hazard in a crash — to itself and to whoever's driving — and a harness that just clips to a seatbelt without having been tested to hold a dog's weight in an impact isn't really doing the job it looks like it's doing.

Company of Animals' Carsafe harness is crash test certified up to 32kg (70lbs) and connects directly to the car's own seatbelt system using a single-loop webbing design. A cushioned, breathable chest panel and reflective fabric are built in, and it can be used as a normal walking harness once you've arrived.
