A guide dog or a search dog doesn't need to run all day so much as it needs to concentrate all day, and concentration is a different demand on a diet than raw mileage - it's steadiness that the job actually asks for, not a higher calorie ceiling.

This recipe is built on brown rice and dried chicken, with salmon oil, green tea extract and blueberry extract added for antioxidant support, and vitamin E raised well above Burns' everyday level. It's a complete food formulated for dogs whose work is mental and behavioural rather than purely physical.

On the recipe name. This is listed as Chicken & Rice on our shop, but Burns' own composition specifies brown rice (67%) rather than a blend - worth knowing if you're comparing it against another dog's plain-rice diet. Beyond the standard adult feeding guide, Burns don't publish separate portion advice for working dogs versus companion dogs, so the same daily-quantity chart covers both.

Who it's for: working and assistance dogs whose job calls for sustained calm attentiveness - guide dogs, search dogs, detection dogs - rather than dogs burning very high energy through constant physical exertion, which Burns cover with a separate, higher-fat recipe.
