A food described as light should be judged by its declared analysis, not by the word alone. This adult recipe puts crude fat and crude fibre at the centre of that comparison while still showing how much chicken the formula contains.

Burgess Supadog Light Chicken is complete dry food for adult dogs in a 12.5KG bag. Wholegrain maize and wholegrain wheat come first, followed by poultry meal at 11%, including chicken at 9%. The composition also includes meat and bone meal, fish meal and fish oil at 0.5%. Prebiotic MOS is 0.2%, yucca schidigera 0.024% and glucosamine 0.014%. The analysis declares crude protein 20%, crude fat 6%, crude fibre 6% and crude ash 9.5%.

What light tells you here. The supplied facts give the 6% fat and 6% fibre analysis but do not state a calorie figure. Use Burgess's feeding table as a guide, adjust as needed, include treats in the overall amount and always provide fresh, clean water rather than inventing a portion from the word light.

Who it's for: adult-dog owners comparing complete light dry foods by their stated fat and fibre figures, and who are comfortable with a grain-led recipe containing chicken, other meat and fish ingredients.
