A working or sporting breed puppy grows into a much bigger workload than a companion breed of the same age, which is the case for feeding a recipe built specifically for that kind of growth rather than a standard puppy food.

Alpha's Sporting Puppy recipe leads with poultry meal (28.0%) and white rice (26.0%), then whole maize, poultry oil, maize gluten meal, sugar beet pellets, fish meal, whole linseed (2.5%), brewers yeast, salmon oil and chicory root extract (0.3%) as a prebiotic source, plus yucca schidigera extract. Alpha's own feeding guidance gives daily amounts from around 30g to 930g depending on the puppy's expected adult weight and breed size category.

• Crude protein 29.0%, crude oils & fat 17.0%, crude fibres 2.0%, crude ash 6.5%
• Poultry meal 28.0%, white rice 26.0%
• Daily amounts range from about 30g to 930g by expected adult size
• Complete feed for puppies of working, sporting and racing breeds

On the age range. Alpha's own material gives two different figures for this recipe — a complete feed for puppies "up to 18 months of age" in one place, and "suitable for puppies up to 9 months" in another. We can't resolve which applies to your dog from the card alone, so check the current pack or Alpha's own guidance for the age range that applies before you switch onto an adult food.

Who it's for: owners of a puppy from a working, sporting or racing breed who need a higher-protein, higher-fat recipe to support faster growth than a standard puppy food provides.
