Tetra Pond
Tetra Pond is the outdoor, pond-care side of Tetra's range, covering fish food — sticks, flakes, pellets and a wheatgerm formula for cooler weather — and water treatments including AquaSafe for conditioning tap water and Medifin for fish health issues. It sits apart from Tetra's tropical aquarium products, built specifically for goldfish and koi living outdoors rather than fish in a heated tank.
You might also want to browse slow feeder dog bowls, enrichment lick mats and drinking fountains for cats.
The food side
Tetra Pond's food comes in several formats — sticks, flakes, pellets and a variety mix — mainly so you can match the format to your fish's size and feeding style, rather than one being better than another. The Wheatgerm Sticks formula is worth knowing about separately: it is a lower-protein, more digestible feed for the cooler parts of the year when a pond fish's digestion slows down.
Feeding little and often, only what fish clear in a few minutes, matters more to pond health than which specific format you buy — uneaten food breaking down in the water is one of the more common causes of poor pond water quality.
Water care and treatments
AquaSafe conditions tap water before it goes into the pond, removing chlorine and chloramine that would otherwise stress or harm fish, and it is worth using every time you do a partial water change rather than just when setting the pond up. Crystal Water is a clarifier for cloudy water, and Medifin is a treatment aimed at fish showing signs of illness or injury.
None of these replace good pond maintenance — regular partial water changes, not overstocking, and keeping on top of debris — but they are the standard tools for the specific jobs they are built for.

Common questions
- Do I need AquaSafe if my pond is topped up from a hose?
- Yes, tap water carries chlorine or chloramine that AquaSafe is specifically designed to neutralise, and this matters whether you are filling a new pond or just topping up evaporation. Skipping it on a large established pond with a small top-up is lower risk than on a small pond, but it is still good practice.
- What is Tetra Pond Medifin used for?
- Medifin is a treatment aimed at fish showing signs of illness, injury, or fungal and bacterial problems, used according to the pack instructions. If a fish is seriously unwell or not responding to treatment, it is worth speaking to an aquatics specialist rather than relying on a general treatment alone.
- Should I feed pond fish differently in winter?
- Yes — as water temperature drops, fish need less food and a lighter, more digestible formula such as a wheatgerm-based stick suits their slower metabolism better than a standard summer feed. Many pond keepers stop feeding entirely once the water gets consistently cold.
- How is Tetra Pond different from ordinary Tetra fish food?
- The core Tetra brand covers tropical and coldwater aquarium fish kept indoors, while Tetra Pond is built specifically for outdoor pond fish like goldfish and koi, which face different water conditions and seasonal temperature swings. If your fish live in an outdoor pond rather than a tank, the pond-specific range is the one formulated for that environment.
