How to choose between pieces in the range
For heating, match the mat or basking product to the size of the enclosure and the temperature gradient the species needs, rather than assuming a bigger number is always better — reptiles need a gradient to move along, not a uniformly hot box. For substrate, favour something that suits how the animal naturally digs or burrows and is easy to spot-clean, since bedding hygiene matters more for reptile health than it is often given credit for.
On food, Komodo's tortoise diets and hay-based treats are worth treating as one part of a varied diet rather than the whole of it — most tortoise species do best on a mix of fresh greens and a reliable dry food, not a dry food alone.

- It covers the basics well — heating, substrate and food are the three things a new keeper needs sorted first, and the range is straightforward to match to a small or starter setup. It's still worth checking the specific needs of your species before buying, since reptile care varies a lot between them.
- Do I need Komodo heat equipment even with a heat lamp already?
- It depends on the enclosure and species. Some reptiles need background heat from a mat as well as a basking lamp to keep the whole enclosure within range overnight, while others manage fine on lamp heat alone. Check the guidance for your specific species rather than assuming either is enough on its own.
- Can I mix Komodo substrate with other brands?
- Yes, there's no reason substrates from different brands can't be combined, as long as the mix still suits how your animal behaves and is safe for it to be in contact with. The main thing to avoid is a substrate that is a poor fit for the species, whatever brand it comes from.
