Full description

A snake that burrows wants bedding that stays put once it's tunnelled through it, not something that collapses back flat the moment it moves on.

Komodo's Aspen Bed Terrain is made from the wood of the Aspen tree, a fully natural substrate that Komodo say encourages natural burrowing behaviour. The key detail is that it holds its shape once burrowed into, letting a snake build and keep its own den rather than having the tunnel cave in behind it.

What we don't know. Komodo haven't given us a particle size or a dust rating for this bedding, so if that's a concern for a particular snake, it's worth checking the bag before relying on this page alone.

Who it's for: keepers of burrowing snakes wanting a substrate that holds a tunnel shape, rather than one built primarily for moisture retention or arid basking areas.

Komodo Aspen Bed Terrain

Why we chose it

Bedding that actually holds a burrow shape rather than settling flat again is a specific, useful property rather than a general marketing claim, and it's the reason to stock this over a generic wood-chip mix. Being 100% natural Aspen also keeps it simple if you're avoiding treated or scented substrates.
