Gourmet cat food: what the range actually offers
We don't publish a star-rating review section for Gourmet, so rather than invent one, here is what the range actually is. Gourmet is a French-style wet cat food range built around smaller, richer portions rather than one big meal, aimed squarely at cats that turn their nose up at plainer wet food.
What's actually in the range
The Gourmet line splits into a handful of distinct formats rather than one product with different flavours. Gold covers pate and succulent-piece pouches in a fairly classic wet food style, Perle is built around fine fillets in a lighter sauce or jelly, and Revelations is a mousse texture, smoother and softer than either of the other two.
There is also a soup-style format, sold as a thinner, sippable pouch alongside solid pieces, which some owners use as a topper over dry food rather than a full meal on its own. Across all of it, portions run smaller than a standard wet pouch, reflecting the brand's positioning as an indulgent extra rather than a bulk daily feed.
Who the range actually suits
Gourmet tends to work best for cats who are genuinely fussy about texture, since the range covers pate, fillets, mousse and soup formats rather than sticking to one, which gives more room to find something a fussy cat will reliably eat. It suits a cat already on a complete diet who needs variety, more than it suits a cat needing a single simple staple food.
Because portions are small and rich, it is worth checking a pouch is labelled complete rather than complementary if you plan to use it as more than an occasional treat or topper, since not every format in the range is intended as a sole diet.
What to check before you buy
Multi-packs are the more economical way to try the range, since a single pouch bought alone costs more per gram than buying a box of twelve or forty. If your cat turns out to prefer one texture over another, buying the smaller mixed variety packs first is a cheaper way to find out than committing to a large box of one format.
As with any wet food, check the ingredient list if your cat has a known sensitivity, since flavours across Gold, Perle, Revelations and the soup range vary in named proteins from fish to poultry, and not every flavour will suit every cat.

Common questions
- Is Gourmet a complete cat food?
- Some formats are labelled complete and some as complementary, so check the individual pack rather than assuming across the whole range. A complementary pouch is fine as a topper or treat, but should not replace a complete diet on its own.
- Which Gourmet range is best for a fussy cat?
- It genuinely depends on the individual cat's texture preference, since the range spans pate, fine fillets, mousse and soup formats. Trying a couple of the smaller multi-packs is a reasonable way to find which texture your own cat prefers.
- Is Gourmet suitable for kittens?
- Check the individual pack for a kitten or growth life-stage statement, since Gourmet's main range is generally formulated for adult cats rather than kittens specifically. A dedicated kitten food is usually the safer default choice.
