Aqua Dog floating toys

Aqua Dog make floating interactive dog toys out of EVA foam, built specifically for play in and around water as well as everyday walks, rather than general chew toys that only happen to float. The range currently in stock is small but focused, with two shapes covering the same style of active, throw-and-retrieve play.

What's in the range

The Flower Ring is a floating ring shape in EVA foam, sized for a dog to grip and carry back on a retrieve, and the Tri Throw is a triangular floating shape built for the same kind of interactive throw-and-fetch play. Both are made from the same lightweight EVA foam construction rather than solid rubber, which is what keeps them on the surface.

EVA foam is a closed-cell material, so it doesn't absorb water and add weight the way a rope or fabric toy would over a long swim, and it stays buoyant through repeated use rather than gradually waterlogging.

Who the shapes suit

Both shapes are built around active retrieve play — throwing into water or across grass for a dog to chase and bring back — rather than being left down as something to chew unsupervised. A dog who enjoys fetch and swims regularly is the obvious fit, though both shapes work just as well thrown on dry land during an ordinary walk.

As with any foam toy, check the surface periodically for splits once a dog has had it a while, since a determined chewer will eventually get through EVA foam the same way they would any lightweight material, and a torn piece is worth removing from play rather than letting it break down further.

Neither shape is designed as a long-lasting solo chew, so they suit a dog whose owner is throwing and retrieving with them rather than a dog left to occupy itself. That's a fair trade for a toy light enough to carry easily and buoyant enough to find again after a throw into open water.

Buying for a dog that swims regularly

If your dog swims often, in a river, lake or the sea, a bright-coloured floating toy like these is genuinely easier to spot on the surface than a dark rubber toy, which matters as much for finding the toy again as for the game itself.

Rinse the foam in fresh water after a swim somewhere salty or stagnant, and let it dry properly before the next use, since a foam toy left wet for long periods is more prone to picking up a smell than a solid rubber one would be.

Common questions

What material are Aqua Dog toys made from?
EVA foam — a lightweight, closed-cell material that stays buoyant because it doesn't absorb water, which is what makes both shapes suitable for retrieve play in water rather than just on land.
Are the Flower Ring and Tri Throw meant for chewing?
They're built for active throw-and-retrieve play rather than as chew toys to be left down unsupervised. Foam construction is what lets them float, but it isn't as durable as a dedicated chew toy under sustained chewing.
Can I use these toys on dry land as well as in water?
Yes — both shapes work for an ordinary game of fetch on grass or a path, the floating construction just means they're equally usable if your walk includes a swim or a paddle.
How do I know when to replace one?
Check the foam surface for splits or chunks missing after regular use, and replace it once you find a tear rather than continuing to throw a toy that's coming apart, since a torn piece is a swallowing risk.
