Product description
Some dogs are not tired out by fetch, because fetch is not the job they were bred for. A collie or an Australian shepherd wants something to move, control and keep moving, and a ball too big to pick up gives them precisely that. They nudge it with the nose and shoulder, push it across the garden, turn it and cut it off, which is herding with no sheep involved and no field required.
The ball is inflatable and built from a tough, reinforced fabric that stands up to being shoved by paws and mouthed by teeth. Its size is as much a safety feature as the material: a dog cannot get a proper grip to bite down, so the game stays a pushing game rather than a chewing one. Built-in handles let you pick it up, throw it and join in, which turns solo garden work into recall and directional practice.
- 45cm (17.7 inch) inflatable ball for pushing and chasing
- Reinforced, puncture-resistant outer fabric
- Built-in handles so you can grab and throw it
- Encourages nose and shoulder work rather than biting
- Suits medium and large dogs
- A real outlet for herding breeds with energy to burn
Two things worth knowing. Puncture-resistant is not puncture-proof, and a determined chewer who gets an edge of it into the back teeth will win in the end, so this is a supervised game rather than a leave-them-to-it toy.
Who it's for: Medium and large working breeds whose brains finish a normal walk long before their legs do.
Why we chose it
The handles are the difference from the plain one: you can lift it, carry it and start the game rather than rolling it about with your foot. A collie finishes a normal walk with its brain untouched; this is what it wants instead.

Which size is right for a Border Collie?
The 45cm for most. A typical Border Collie is 14–20kg, so 45cm is the right ball: too big to get their jaws round, and light enough to push. One size covers the whole breed. Bred to move stock, so most take to a herding ball in the first session.
Which size is right for a Cocker Spaniel?
The 45cm for most. A typical Cocker Spaniel is 13–14.5kg, so 45cm is the right ball: too big to get their jaws round, and light enough to push. One size covers the whole breed. Chasers rather than shovers; keep the first sessions short and it holds their interest.
Which size is right for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier?
The 45cm for most. A typical Staffordshire Bull Terrier is 11–17kg, so 45cm is the right ball: too big to get their jaws round, and light enough to push. One size covers the whole breed. Terriers bite before they push — if they get any grip on it at all, go up a size.
Which size is right for a Jack Russell Terrier?
The 45cm for most. A typical Jack Russell Terrier is 5–6kg, which puts them on a 25cm ball. 45cm is the closest this one comes in — a size up, which still works, it is just more to push. One size covers the whole breed. Terriers bite before they push — if they get any grip on it at all, go up a size.
Which size is right for a Miniature Dachshund?
The 45cm for most. A typical Miniature Dachshund is 4–5.5kg, which puts them on a 25cm ball. 45cm is the closest this one comes in — a size up, which still works, it is just more to push. One size covers the whole breed. Hounds are chasers, and a ball they can never catch keeps them going.
Which size is right for a Cockapoo?
The 45cm for most. A typical Cockapoo is 5–11kg, which puts them on a 25cm ball. 45cm is the closest this one comes in — a size up, which still works, it is just more to push. The breed runs 5–11kg and crosses a size step, so go by your own dog — smaller, up to 9kg: the 45cm; larger, over 9kg: the 45cm.
