Why we chose it

It is a present-shaped toy with a second toy inside it, which is a neat trick for a dog's birthday and the reason I pulled it out of the plush range. Once the outside has been shredded there is still something left to squeak, so it earns more than one afternoon. Plush is the cheap end of the toy shelf and this gives you two things for one price.

Full description

A plush toy has two lives: the one before the dog opens it up and the one after. Most owners bin it at that point, which is a small waste every time, and it is the reason a toy built with something worth finding inside it is a slightly different proposition to a toy built to stay shut.

The outer is polyester, shaped as a wrapped birthday present, with an internal squeaker and a layer of crinkle so it makes two different noises depending on whether it is being bitten or shaken. Once the plush is torn open there is a vinyl dog toy in the body underneath. It is 20cm, it is part of RSW's Birthday Pet range, and the makers list it in pink, blue and green under the one code.
