Sifting and ordinary trays work differently
In an ordinary tray, remove solids and replace the damp sawdust as the pellets break down. A sifting tray lets the used sawdust fall through while intact pellets stay above, which can make the material much easier to manage.
Do not assume every wood product clumps. The pack will say so when it does; ordinary pellets absorb and crumble instead.
The cat gets the final vote
Mix wood litter with the current litter over a week. If the cat starts balancing on the tray edge or toileting elsewhere, slow the change or return to the texture they accepted. A sustainable litter that the cat refuses is not the sustainable choice.
