Buying guide

How to choose litter scoops

The best setup is the one your cat can reach, use comfortably and accept consistently.

Match the scoop to the litter

Fine litter needs narrower slots than large pellets: the aim is to retain clumps or waste while allowing clean litter to fall back into the tray.

A firm edge helps lift material from the base of the tray, while a comfortable handle matters when several trays are cleaned each day. Check the dimensions rather than judging from the product image alone.

Part of a regular routine

Cats Protection recommends removing urine and faeces at least twice a day, with more frequent scooping for cats that will not reuse a soiled tray. Keep the scoop somewhere hygienic but convenient enough that the routine is easy to maintain.

Common questions

Which litter scoop works with fine litter?

Choose narrower slots that hold the clumps while sifting clean grains back into the tray. Wider slots are generally better suited to larger pellets.

How often should I scoop the tray?

Remove urine and faeces at least twice a day and more often if your cat avoids a used tray. A full clean is still needed regularly; scooping does not replace it.
