Full description

A new environment, a car journey or a first grooming session can unsettle a puppy long before it has learned that any of those things are routine, which is the moment a calming treat is meant for.

VetIQ's Serene & Calming treats are built on wheat flour, canola oil, corn starch and poultry protein (chicken, 7%), with L-tryptophan, rosemary extract, lemon balm and chamomile oil added on top. They come out at protein 11.73%, crude fibres 1.07%, crude oils and fats 27.83%, crude ash 3.13% and moisture 6.8%, at 3.6 kcal per 100g or 14 kcal per 4 treats. VetIQ's feeding table specifies puppies from 4 weeks of age.

One thing worth knowing. L-tryptophan, lemon balm and chamomile are additives VetIQ include for their calming association, in small stated amounts — not a licensed medicine. A puppy with genuine, ongoing anxiety around noise, separation or new situations needs a vet's or behaviourist's input, not just a change of treat.

Who it's for: owners of a puppy facing a specific stressful moment — settling in, training, travel, grooming, kennels — wanting a treat to offer around that moment rather than a fix for an ongoing issue.

Vetiq Healthy Treats Serene & Calming

Why we chose it

It's aimed squarely at the specific moments that unsettle a young puppy rather than making a broad claim, and the calorie figure (14 kcal per 4 treats) is small enough to use generously around a stressful afternoon without derailing feeding. Naming L-tryptophan, lemon balm and chamomile plainly is also more useful than a vague "calming formula" claim.
