Working and sporting dogs are burning through far more energy across a day than one snoozing on the sofa, and a formula pitched at that group is usually built around a higher protein and fat figure to match — a genuine difference, not just a label.

Fish makes up 33% of this recipe (19% dried fish, 10% freshly prepared salmon, 4% dried salmon), alongside wheat, whole grain barley (24.5%), brown rice (4%), poultry oil, chicken stock (2%), whole linseed (0.5%) and a small blend of dried herbs (0.1%, including parsley, rosemary, basil, fennel, oregano and thyme). It's suitable for adult and senior working dogs, coming out at 25% protein, 11% fat, 2.5% fibre, 7.5% ash and 1.3% calcium.

On the name. "Salmon & Brown Rice" undersells what's actually the biggest grain in the bag — whole grain barley at 24.5% against brown rice's 4% — and oversells the salmon a little too: of the 33% total fish, only the 10% fresh and 4% dried portions are specifically named salmon, the other 19% being unnamed dried fish. It's still a genuinely fish-forward recipe; the name just isn't the most accurate summary of it.

Who it's for: owners of working or sporting dogs, including seniors, who want a higher-energy fish-based recipe and don't mind that most of the grain content is barley rather than rice.
