Full description

The stretch between weaning and a settled adult diet is when a lot of digestive upsets show up, which is why an early-weaning food often leans on one obvious protein and comparatively little else.

This recipe is built on a minimum of 45% salmon (deboned and dried) and a minimum of 26% potato, with no grain in the ingredient list. Simpsons pitch it as suitable from early weaning through to adulthood for any breed, and specifically for large breeds up to 18 months old.

Salmon (minimum 45%) and potato (minimum 26%)
Protein 30%, oil 16%, fibre 2.5%, crude ash 8.5%
Calcium 1.24%, phosphorus 0.79%
Omega-6 4.59%, omega-3 1.44%
Grain free
Suitable for large breeds up to 18 months

On the breed cut-off. Simpsons cap this as suitable for large breeds only up to 18 months old — after that, a large-breed dog needs moving on to an adult food, which isn't obvious once you've settled into a routine with this bag.

Who it's for: owners weaning a puppy of any breed onto solids, and specifically large-breed owners who need cover up to 18 months rather than the shorter window some large-breed puppy formulas use.

Simpsons Puppy Sensitive Salmon Potato

Why we chose it

Minimum percentages are printed for both salmon and potato rather than left vague, which is worth something when you're comparing bags side by side. It also covers large breeds to 18 months, longer than a lot of the competition manages.
