Not every puppy or "sensitive" range from the same brand uses the same base — chicken and brown rice sit at the more traditional end of Simpsons' puppy line, alongside grain-free duck or salmon versions in the same range.

Dried chicken leads this recipe at a minimum of 34%, with brown rice at a minimum of 26%, chicken fat at 9% and chicken gravy at 3%. Unlike some of Simpsons' other puppy recipes, this one contains oats and maize.

• Dried chicken (minimum 34%) and brown rice (minimum 26%)
• Chicken fat 9%, chicken gravy 3%
• Protein 30%, oil 18%, fibre 3.75%, crude ash 8.5%
• Calcium 1.26%, phosphorus 0.88%
• Contains oats and maize — not a grain-free recipe
• 2kg or 12kg bag

On the grain content. Unlike the duck and salmon versions in this same Simpsons range, this recipe is not grain free — oats and maize both appear in the ingredients — so it's the wrong pick specifically if you're avoiding grain, even though it's from the same "Puppy" line.

Who it's for: owners weaning a puppy of any breed who want a more traditional chicken and rice recipe rather than a grain-free one from the same range.
