Not everything a dog wears has to be functional. A bandana is a fifteen-second way to make one look like they made an effort, and this carries a navy print of Shiba Inu faces, bones and paw prints that reads well in photographs and from across a park. It ties on around the neck, sits flat over the chest, and comes off again just as quickly when the novelty wears thin.

The tie-on style is worth choosing over the slip-over-the-collar sort for one reason: you set the tension yourself. That means it can sit loose on a dog who dislikes anything at the throat, or snug on one who would otherwise leave it in a hedge somewhere between the car park and home. Use the same rule you would for a collar, which is that two fingers should slide comfortably underneath. It is a light piece of fabric in two colourways and two sizes.

• Triangular tie-on bandana
• Navy print of Shiba Inu, bones and paw motifs
• Two colourways, pink with blue or blue
• Two sizes, M and L
• Packed weight 20g to 25g

Not for unsupervised wear. A tied bandana can loosen or snag on a branch, a crate bar or another dog's teeth, so take it off when your dog is left alone, crated, or playing rough with friends. This is a walk-and-photographs accessory rather than something to leave on around the clock.

Who it's for: Owners who enjoy dressing the walk up a little, and anyone after a small, inexpensive gift for a dog person.
