Two problems turn up on the same walk in November: the dog is getting wet, and drivers cannot see either of you. This is a single-layer shell with a reflective strip across it, so it sheds a shower and throws headlights back at whoever is coming up the road behind you. Light enough to fold into a coat pocket and pull out only when the sky changes its mind.

Being a single layer is the whole design. There is no lining and no padding, which means it adds no warmth at all — it is a rain shell rather than a winter coat, and on a genuinely cold day it goes over a jumper rather than instead of one. In return it packs down to almost nothing and dries in minutes over a radiator, which no lined coat will do for you.

• Single-layer unlined rain shell
• Reflective warning strip
• Sizes XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL
• Six colourways: yellow, dark green, vermilion, red with blue trim, blue with green trim, green with red trim
• Lightweight and packable
• One raincoat per pack

Two things worth knowing. And a reflective strip only works when a light is pointed at it — on an unlit lane with no headlights about, you want a lit collar as well.

Who it's for: Town and suburb dogs doing short wet walks and dark evening ones, and owners who want something that lives folded up next to the lead.
