Boots and paw protectors are sized by paw WIDTH — the widest part of the paw when your dog is standing and the paw is spread. Measure width first; any weights are only a rough guide.
How to measure
- Stand your dog on a piece of paper so the paw spreads to its natural width.
- Mark the widest points on each side and measure straight across, in cm.
- Measure a front paw (usually a touch bigger than the back). If between sizes, size up.

Full description
Paws take more punishment than most owners notice until something goes wrong with one. Grit salt in January burns the pads and then gets licked off, hot pavement in July can blister them within a few minutes, and a healing cut needs covering to stay clean. Boots are one of those things that sit unused in a drawer for months at a time and then earn their price back inside a fortnight.
The sole here is rubber with a moulded tread, which does two jobs at once. It takes the abrasion so the pad does not, and it grips laminate and tile, worth knowing if you have an older dog who slips indoors. Each boot fastens with two velcro straps rather than one, which is the difference between a boot that stays on for a whole walk and one you retrieve from a hedge.
