Cold and wet are two separate problems, and most dog coats only solve one of them. A padded suit with leg coverage takes on both: insulation across the body for the temperature, and fabric down the legs for everything the ground throws up. For a short-coated dog in January that is the difference between a proper walk and a quick lap of the block before somebody gives up.

The padding is a cotton fill quilted through the body, which traps warm air rather than simply blocking the wind, and the coverage runs across the back, chest and legs. Adjustable straps hold it in position so the suit does not twist round as your dog runs, which is the standard complaint with full-body garments. Contrast sleeves finish it off, and it goes in the machine when it comes home muddy.

On sizing: back length decides this, not weight. Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, and if your dog is deep-chested for their length then send us both figures. A padded suit that pulls tight across the chest gets refused at the front door and that is the end of it, so we would rather size you properly the first time.
