The problem with brushing a heavy shedder indoors is not the brushing. It is the twenty minutes afterwards, spent chasing undercoat off the sofa, the rug and your jumper, and the fact that most of what you lift out of the coat goes into the air rather than into the bin. Drawing the fur into a sealed canister as it comes free changes the arithmetic, and it is why people who own a double-coated dog will happily groom indoors in April.

The kit works from a mains-powered motor with interchangeable heads, so the same suction serves a de-shedding rake, a trimmer and a plain clean-up nozzle for the floor afterwards. Suction is adjustable, which is the setting that decides whether a nervous animal tolerates the process: start it low and most dogs get used to the sensation faster than they get used to the noise. Everything collects in a sealed canister rather than a bag.

• Electric suction drawing loose fur straight into a sealed canister
• Interchangeable heads for de-shedding, trimming and clean-up
• Adjustable suction levels
• Mains powered for consistent performance
• Plug options for the UK, EU and US

On the word quiet. No noise figure is published, and quiet next to a vacuum cleaner is not quiet next to a cat. Introduce it over several sessions: switched off first, then running in the next room, then briefly on the coat. And do not take a de-shedding head to an existing mat. Mats need cutting or clipping out, and dragging a rake through one hurts.

Who it's for: Owners of heavy-shedding dogs and cats who groom indoors and are tired of losing the afternoon to a lint roller.
