Frost finds the thin-coated dogs first, and it finds them at the legs and belly rather than the back. A coat that stops at the ribs leaves the parts closest to wet, cold ground completely uncovered. This quilted suit takes a different approach, wrapping all four legs as well as the body, so a small dog can trot through a frozen morning without the cold creeping in underneath.

The shell is quilted and padded, and the padding is what does the actual work: it traps a layer of still air against the dog, while the quilting stops that padding shifting into a lump at the shoulders after a few wears. Poppers run the length of the fastening, so you can open the whole thing out flat, stand your dog in it and close it up, rather than posting four legs through four holes with a wriggling terrier.

• Full-body cut with all four legs covered
• Quilted, padded shell that traps warmth
• Popper fastenings along the closure
• Two colours, green and pink
• Sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL
• Made for small dogs

On sizing: Four-leg suits are also less forgiving than open coats, and a dog who is long in the back or deep in the chest for their size usually wants the next size up.

Who it's for: Small or short-coated dogs who genuinely suffer in winter, and owners who want the legs and belly covered rather than just the back.
