Scratching and resting are usually two separate purchases, which is how households end up with a scratching post nobody uses beside a bed the cat sleeps in. This piece puts both into one shape: a curved wooden frame holding a woven scratch-board seat, so a cat can climb on, stretch out along the curve, and claw the surface they are already lying on without moving anywhere.

The seat is a woven board rather than a soft cushion, which is what makes it a scratching surface first and a lounger second. The curve gives the spine somewhere to follow, and a sisal ball is built into the frame at paw height for the cat who wakes up wanting something to bat rather than something to claw. The base is raised off the floor, which keeps the underside clear of damp on a tiled kitchen or a conservatory floor where a flat-bottomed bed would sit in condensation.

• Curved wooden frame with a woven scratch-board seat
• Built-in sisal scratching ball
• Raised, moisture-resistant base
• Approximately 63 x 25.6 x 33.5cm
• Single option, no size or colour choice

On what this is not. This is a hard scratcher lounger with a woven seat, and no amount of describing it as a bed changes how it feels to lie on. Most cats take to it happily, but if your cat only sleeps on soft bedding, add a folded blanket or buy something padded instead.

Who it's for: Cats who scratch horizontally and like to lounge on a firm surface, in homes short on space for two separate items.
