Grain-free is often chosen for a puppy before anyone has actually confirmed grain is the problem, usually because a sibling or a previous dog reacted to a grain-based food. This recipe gives that choice without dropping the protein a growing dog still needs.

Dried turkey protein and dried potatoes each make up 25% of the mix — an even split rather than a mostly-meat recipe padded with starch — alongside sweet potato, pea protein and whole linseed. It is a complete grain-free food for puppies and junior dogs, and James Wellbeloved's stated approach across the range is to exclude beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat.

• Complete grain-free food for puppies and junior dogs, built on turkey
• Turkey protein and potato are each 25% of the mix
• Protein 29.5%, fat 15.5%, crude ash 8.5%, crude fibre 2.9%
• Calcium 1.5% and phosphorus 1.0%, balanced for growth
• Excludes beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat
• 1.5KG bag

On the factory. This is genuinely grain free by ingredients — no wheat, oats, rice or barley appear anywhere on the list. James Wellbeloved's own label does note it is produced in a factory that also handles grains and other protein sources, though, which is worth raising with your vet before relying on this bag alone if your puppy has a diagnosed allergy rather than a general sensitivity.

Who it's for: owners of a puppy or junior dog moving to a grain-free diet on a vet's advice or family history of sensitivity, rather than a dog with a confirmed allergy needing guaranteed zero cross-contact.
