All about this product

Product description

Dogs working dense cover take a lot of small punishment. Blackthorn, wire, brambles, flint and the occasional bad encounter all land on the same place: the chest and the front of the ribcage, where a dog going forward at speed meets whatever is in the way. A reinforced panel across that area is a sensible bit of kit for a dog that works rough ground week in, week out.

Construction is a four-layer reinforced body panel under a camouflage outer, cut to sit over the chest and torso and held with adjustable straps so it does not shift when a dog is quartering at pace. Straps matter more than the panel does, in truth: armour that slides round to one side protects nothing and rubs everything. Expect to spend a little time setting the strap lengths, then mark them, because the fit you want is snug enough not to rotate and loose enough not to restrict the shoulder.

Four-layer reinforced panel across the chest and torso
Camouflage outer fabric
Adjustable straps for a fit that stays put at speed
Five sizes, XS to XL
Weighs between 920g and 1kg depending on size
Ships in a 30 x 25 x 5cm package

Who it's for: Handlers of gundogs and working dogs that spend their days in thick cover, who want the chest protected and would rather hear the limits up front.

Why we chose it

A dog going forward at speed meets blackthorn, wire and flint with the same place every time: the chest and front ribs. A four-layer panel there is sensible kit for rough ground. It adds heat, so watch a working dog in warm weather.

Size guide & how to measure

The manufacturer's own "Armor Size Chart", with the dog weight each size is intended for shown beside the size code.

How to measure

Measure the neck circumference where the collar section will sit.
Measure the bust around the deepest part of the chest, behind the front legs.
Measure the waist circumference in front of the back legs, then match to the closest row.

Size	Neck Length	Neck circumference	Bust	Waist circumference
XS (15-25kg)	9cm	40–46cm	66–70cm	54–58cm
S (25-35kg)	9cm	40–46cm	70–74cm	56–60cm
1 (35-45kg)	11cm	42–48cm	74–78cm	58–62cm
L (45-55kg)	13cm	44–50cm	78–84cm	62–66cm
XL (55-65kg)	13cm	44–50cm	86–90cm	68–72cm

Measurements are the manufacturer's own figures. The third row is printed as "1 (35-45kg)" on their chart - almost certainly a typo for M - and we have left it exactly as printed rather than guessing. If between sizes, size up.
