These boots are sized by paw WIDTH — the widest part of the paw. Measure the width first; any weights are only a rough guide.

How to measure

Stand your dog on paper so the paw spreads to its natural width.
Mark the widest points and measure straight across, in cm.
Measure a front paw (usually a touch bigger than the back). If between sizes, size up.

Full description

Pavement in a British heatwave gets hotter than most owners think to check. Press the back of your hand against it and hold for seven seconds, and if you cannot manage that, your dog cannot walk on it. Summer boots are the answer on the days when the walk cannot wait until evening, and mesh rather than neoprene is what makes them bearable to actually wear.

The uppers are an open breathable mesh, so air moves through and heat does not build up inside the boot the way it does in a waterproof one. Underneath, a non-slip rubber sole takes the heat off the paw and gives grip, which turns out to be a bonus indoors for older dogs sliding about on laminate. Twin hook-and-loop straps close around the ankle, and both carry a reflective strip for dark early mornings.
