A good bed lets your pet stretch out and curl up. Measure your pet nose-to-tail while they’re lying down, then add room to move.

How to measure

Measure your pet from nose to base of tail while lying relaxed.
Add roughly 15–25 cm so they can stretch out fully.
For pets that like to curl, you can size down slightly for a snug, den-like feel.

Big dogs are badly served by pet bedding. Most beds sold as large are large for a spaniel, and a rangy dog ends up with their back end on the floor and their head hanging off the front, which defeats the purpose entirely. Sizing that starts where other ranges stop is the useful thing here, and the sofa shape gives a dog the choice of stretching flat out or backing into the raised edge.

The build is a cushioned mattress base with bolstered sides on the raised edges, which suits the two ways big dogs actually sleep: flat on their side with the legs out, or propped with the head over a rim. The flat base is the important half. Dished nest beds force a curl, and a deep-chested dog who cannot lie fully on their side will simply choose the floorboards instead. Four sizes are listed, in grey.
