Our own catalogue had this filed under winter coats, which is wrong and we have corrected it. There is no waterproof shell here and no insulating fill. For a thin-coated dog in December you want something considerably warmer; for most dogs in October this is about right. Measure the back from collar to tail base before choosing, and ask if you fall between two sizes.

How to measure

Use a soft tape measure, as the maker instructs.
Measure the bust (chest circumference) around the widest part of the chest, behind the front legs.
Measure back length along the spine, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Full description

The nuisance with most dog coats is the harness. You put the coat on, then either thread the harness over the top where it sits badly, or take the whole coat off again every time you clip a lead on. A back opening solves it in the simplest possible way: the harness stays on underneath, the lead clips straight through, and getting out of the door stops being a two-stage operation.

The vest itself is deliberately light, in a breathable cotton-feel fabric, and weighs between 270 and 330 grams depending on which size you take. That puts it firmly in the category of a layer rather than insulation, enough to take the chill off a short-coated dog on an autumn morning and not enough to make a walk uncomfortable when the sun comes out. It pulls on over the head, with no fastenings to fight in a doorway.
