Harnesses are sized by the chest (girth) — the measurement around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
How to measure
- Stand your pet up squarely.
- Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Keep two fingers under the tape so the fit is snug, not tight.
- If your pet is between sizes, choose the larger one.

Full description
Buying a harness, a collar and a lead separately usually means three orders, three sizing decisions and a set that does not quite match when it all turns up. This arrives as one coordinated kit, sized together, and there is a poop-bag holder in the option list as well, which is the sort of small thing you only really appreciate on the walk where you discover you have left the bags on the kitchen table.
The material is a coated waterproof webbing rather than plain nylon strap, and the difference shows up in winter. Uncoated webbing holds water, stays cold and heavy against a dog's chest and starts to smell after a few muddy weeks. A coated strap wipes clean and dries out. That matters more on a harness than on a collar, because the harness is the piece sitting against a large area of skin for the whole of every walk.
