Not every dog needs a heavy-duty rubber toy to bite down on — a softer-mouthed dog, or one still learning to retrieve, often does better with something lighter that gives a little, which is the gap a cork-filled dummy fills next to a solid dumbbell.

Coachi's Training Dummy is filled with natural cork, which keeps it lightweight, buoyant and non-toxic, and it comes with a rope attachment for extended throwing distance. It floats, so it doubles as a water retrieve toy, and it's built as a padded-style dummy rather than a rigid one.

• Three sizes on this page: Small 7 inches/0.4lb, Medium 8.75 inches/0.6lb, Large 10.25 inches/1lb
• Filled with natural cork for a lightweight, buoyant, non-toxic dummy
• Floats in water
• Rope attachment for extended throwing distance
• Suitable for puppy training as well as adult gundog work

On sizing, and on chewing. No guidance is given on which of the three sizes suits which size of dog, so match it to your dog's mouth rather than their breed name. It's also explicitly not a chew toy: Coachi's own guidance is not to leave it with a dog unattended, and to check it regularly for wear and stop using it if it's damaged.

Who it's for: owners of softer-mouthed dogs doing gundog or general retrieval training who want a lighter, cork-filled dummy rather than a solid rubber one.
