Chudleys Classic

Not every dog needs a working dog's calorie count, and feeding a high-energy recipe to a dog resting between light exercise just adds weight it does not need. Chudleys Classic is pitched at that lower-workload end of the same range that includes their higher-protein Working Crunch: whole grain wheat and maize lead the recipe, with poultry meal at a minimum 14% chicken and lamb meal further down the list.

Crude protein comes out at 19% and oil at 12% — both lower than a working-dog recipe — with crude fibre at 3% and crude ash at 5.5%. Chudleys still include a joint-care line-up here too: full fat linseed, salmon oil, seaweed, blackcurrant, rosemary, pomegranate and rosehips all appear, alongside yeast as a source of mannan oligosaccharides. Chudleys' feeding guide runs from 110-190g a day for small dogs (5-10kg) up to 600g or more for very large dogs (45kg+).

On who this suits less. At 19% protein and 12% oil, this is a lighter recipe than Chudleys' own working-dog food, so a genuinely active or working dog with a heavy daily calorie need may do better on a higher-energy formula — this one is built for maintenance and rest periods, not peak workload.

Who it's for: owners of dogs with a lower or moderate daily workload who still want the joint-support ingredients found in a working-dog recipe, without the extra protein and oil aimed at genuinely active dogs.
