Product description

Green-lipped mussel turns up in a fair number of joint supplements marketed at people, and it appears here as a named ingredient in a dog's dietetic food rather than a separate add-on product.

VetCare Joint Care Turkey with Sweet Potato leads with turkey (58%), with sweet potato and pumpkin as the carbohydrate base, and adds green-lipped mussel (2%) alongside linseed oil and fish oil for omega-3. Arden Grange formulate it with a feeding period of initially up to 3 months to support joint metabolism in osteoarthritis.

395g tray (Arden Grange also sell a dry version of this range, sold separately)
Turkey (58%)
Green-lipped mussel (2%), linseed oil and fish oil
Protein 10%, fat content 6%, omega-3 fatty acids 1.2%
Metabolisable energy 92kcal/100g

On the dry version of this range. Arden Grange also sell a dry-bag version of VetCare Joint Care Turkey with Sweet Potato. Its composition and analysis differ from this wet tray's, since the two are separate recipes for the same purpose rather than one recipe in two formats — this page is written from the wet tray's own card.

Who it's for: a dog with diagnosed osteoarthritis, being fed this on a vet's direction — not a general joint-supplement product for a dog with no diagnosed condition.

Why we chose it

Green-lipped mussel as a named, quantified ingredient is a genuinely specific addition rather than a generic joint-support claim. It is a serious dietetic food for a diagnosed condition, so we would always point a customer to their vet alongside it rather than suggesting it as a general supplement.
