Product description

A puppy's appetite for growing outpaces almost everything else about it in the first year, which is why the feeding guide on a puppy food is really a growth chart in disguise — you're not just feeding the dog in front of you, you're feeding the dog it's about to become.

This is Arden Grange's puppy and junior recipe, built on chicken — 37% in total, made up of 32% dried chicken and 5% fresh chicken — with rice (17%), maize, chicken oil, beet pulp, whole dried egg (3%), dried krill, chicken digest and a small amount of whole linseed. It's formulated as a complete food for puppies and young dogs, free from wheat gluten, beef, soya and dairy, and comes in a 12KG bag.

Protein 29%, fat 18%
Ash 7%, fibre 2.5%, calcium 1.3%, phosphorus 0.85%
Omega-3 at 0.78%, omega-6 at 3.55%
Chicken 37% in total (32% dried, 5% fresh), rice 17%
Free from wheat gluten, beef, soya and dairy
2kg, 6kg or 12kg bag

What "fresh chicken" means here. The name and Arden Grange's own copy lead with fresh chicken, but the composition panel shows the 37% total chicken content is mostly dried chicken (32%), with fresh chicken making up 5% of the recipe. Both are genuinely chicken and both are on the label — it just isn't the fresh-meat-first recipe the name on the front suggests.

Who it's for: owners feeding a puppy or young dog through to full adult height, particularly one being kept off wheat gluten, beef, soya and dairy — not an adult dog past its growth phase.

Why we chose it

A puppy food that names its actual chicken split rather than just saying "chicken" is more honest than most of the shelf, even if the split itself — mostly dried, a little fresh — isn't what the front of the bag implies. It also covers the whole growth period in one bag, from 8 weeks up, rather than needing a second product part way through.
