A large breed carries more weight through the same joints as a small one, which is why a large-breed food usually adds something a smaller dog's food does not bother with — in this case, specific joint-support ingredients rather than a generic claim about them.

Arden Grange's Large Breed Chicken & Rice is built on chicken meat meal (25%) and fresh chicken (5%), with rice at 25%, and adds glucosamine (740mg/kg), MSM (740mg/kg) and chondroitin (520mg/kg) — all stated as precise figures rather than an unquantified "joint support" claim.

• 2kg bag
• Chicken meat meal (25%) and fresh chicken (5%)
• Glucosamine 740mg/kg, MSM 740mg/kg, chondroitin 520mg/kg
• Protein 24%, fat content 14%, crude ash 7%, crude fibre 2.5%
• Calcium 1.4%, phosphorus 0.95%, L-carnitine 50mg/kg

On the "large breed" label. Arden Grange do not state a different kibble size for this recipe on the card supplied to us — the difference here is the added joint-support ingredients and the feeding chart, not necessarily the shape of the kibble itself. If kibble size matters for your dog, it is worth checking with the bag in hand before assuming it is bigger.

Who it's for: an adult large-breed dog where joint wear is a genuine long-term consideration, rather than a smaller dog that would suit Arden Grange's standard adult recipe just as well.
