Dog hampers and gift sets that get used, not just opened
A good dog hamper is one the dog is still using in February. Ours are built around the winter walk rather than a basket of biscuits: a light-up collar, blinker and flashing ball for the dark evenings, a lead and collar set that lights the whole walk, a fetch set that works after dusk, and a paw-care kit for the mud. Each is priced below its parts and posted together in one box.
Why these are kits rather than treat baskets
Most dog hampers are a pretty box of biscuits that is gone in a week. Ours are put together around a job the owner actually has in winter: getting seen on a dark lane, keeping fetch going after four o'clock, and getting muddy, salty paws clean at the back door. Every item in a kit is something we sell on its own and would use ourselves, chosen so the three pieces work together rather than as three separate presents.
Each set costs a little less than buying the three items separately, and it arrives as one parcel from stock we hold, so a hamper ordered on a Tuesday is on the doorstep by the weekend rather than in transit for a fortnight.
The Dark Walks Kit and the Light-Up Walk Set
The Dark Walks Kit is the one for a dog that goes off the lead in the gloom: a nylon flashing collar that runs steady or flashing, a clip-on LED blinker for the harness or coat so the dog is lit from behind as well as the front, and a flashing ball that lights on impact so you can find it in wet grass. It comes in a Small/Medium size for collars up to about 45cm and a Medium/Large size above that.
The Light-Up Walk Set is for the dog that stays on the lead on a road with no path. It adds a 120cm flashing lead to the flashing collar and blinker, so a driver sees a person attached to a dog rather than a single moving light. It is the set we would give to anyone walking a lane in January, and it is the one most people buy for their own dog rather than someone else's.
The Hi-Vis Walk Set
For a dog that tolerates wearing something, the Hi-Vis Walk Set does the biggest job of all three walking kits. The orange flashing vest covers the whole body in a colour drivers are trained to notice, with LEDs high on the back where the chin and the lead cannot hide them. It comes with a reflective rope slip lead that bounces headlights back along its length and a clip-on flashing blinker for the angles the vest does not cover.
The vest is sized Small, Medium or Large on chest measurement, and a dog between sizes should go up, because a vest that binds under the front legs comes off in the first hundred yards. The slip lead suits a dog that walks on a loose lead; a puller should stay on its harness with the blinker clipped to it, and the vest still does the visibility job.
Fetch After Dark, and the Muddy Paws Kit
The Fetch After Dark Set is the toy hamper: a flashing ball and an LED flash bone that light up on impact, plus a set of glow-in-the-dark balls that charge under a lamp for a minute and glow softly for the walk with no battery inside. The LED toys are for fetch under supervision and go away afterwards; the glow balls are the ones to leave with a dog that likes to carry a ball around the house.
The Muddy Paws Kit is the practical one, and the one owners thank you for in February: a no-rinse oatmeal paw cleaner for the back door, a hundred paw wipes for the car, and an oatmeal nose and paw balm for pads dried out by grit and road salt. It suits any size or age of dog.
Choosing the right hamper for the dog
Start with what the dog does on a walk. Off the lead in the park after dark means the Dark Walks Kit; on the lead along a road means the Light-Up Walk Set, or the Hi-Vis Walk Set for a dog that will wear a vest. A dog that lives for fetch gets the Fetch After Dark Set, and a dog that comes home filthy gets the Muddy Paws Kit.
Sizes matter on three of the five: the two collar kits are sized by neck and the vest set by chest, with the measurements on each product page. Buying for a dog you cannot measure, choose the Fetch After Dark Set or the Muddy Paws Kit, which fit every dog.

Common questions
- Are dog hampers a good present?
- They are if the dog will use what is inside. A basket of biscuits is gone in a week; a kit built around a dark winter walk or a muddy hallway gets used every day until spring. Choose by what the dog does, and check the size on the collar and vest kits before you order for someone else's dog.
- Can I make up my own dog hamper?
- Yes. Every item in these sets is sold separately, so you can build your own version piece by piece from the product pages, and add treats, a toy or a coat to it. The sets exist because these particular combinations work together and come out cheaper than the parts, and they arrive in one box.
- How quickly does a dog hamper arrive?
- The sets are made up from stock we hold ourselves and posted together on the next dispatch day, with tracked delivery across the UK. That makes them a safe last-minute present in December, when a hamper ordered from further afield can miss the day it was meant for. The delivery window is shown on each product page before you order.
- Which hamper is best for a dog that hates wearing things?
- The Fetch After Dark Set or the Muddy Paws Kit, because neither asks the dog to wear anything. If visibility on walks is the point, the Dark Walks Kit is the gentlest option: the flashing collar sits like a normal collar and most dogs do not notice it, whereas the vest in the Hi-Vis Walk Set needs a dog that tolerates clothes.
