Homemade treats solve a problem shop-bought ones cannot, because you know exactly what is in them. That matters if your dog is on an exclusion diet, reacts to something you have not yet identified, or simply eats too many biscuits of unknown calorie content. A flexible mould and a patterned press turn a batch of dough into something that looks deliberate rather than like flattened lumps on a baking tray.

Silicone is the right material here because baked treat dough sticks to almost everything else. The mould flexes inside out to release each treat whole rather than needing a knife run round the edge, and the embossing stamp presses a pattern into the top before baking so the finished biscuit holds its shape. It takes oven heat and washes clean, and the same mould works for frozen treats: fill it with blended banana, plain yoghurt or wet food and freeze it for a hot afternoon.

• Flexible silicone mould in a festive tree shape

Two things worth knowing. Do check your recipe as well: no xylitol, no chocolate, no raisins, no onion, and go easy on the salt.

Who it's for: Owners who bake for their pets, or who want frozen enrichment treats in a shape that holds together.
