SmartBones grain-free chews
None of the SmartBones chews we currently stock are labelled specifically as grain-free on the pack, so if that is exactly what you are after, it is worth checking the ingredient list on the specific product rather than assuming from the brand name alone. What we can tell you is what is actually in the range and how to check quickly for yourself.
What's actually in a SmartBones chew
SmartBones built their range as a rawhide-free alternative, using vegetables, chicken and other proteins wrapped around a starch-based centre rather than animal hide. Common ingredients across the range include sweet potato, chicken and beef, which is different from a rawhide chew but is not automatically the same thing as a grain-free product, since some starch bases used in this type of chew do include grain-derived ingredients.
If avoiding grain specifically is important to you, whether for a dog with a diagnosed sensitivity or simply a preference, check the ingredient panel on the individual product page rather than assuming from the range's general reputation as a rawhide alternative.
What to look for instead
If you need a genuinely grain-free chew, look for products that state it explicitly on the packaging rather than inferring it from what the chew is not made of. We stock other natural and single-ingredient chews alongside the SmartBones range that may fit better if grain-free is a firm requirement rather than a general preference.
A single-ingredient dried chew, such as a plain fish or tripe stick, is often the simplest way to guarantee there is no grain involved at all, since there is only one thing on the ingredient list to check rather than a full recipe.

Common questions
- Are SmartBones chews grain-free?
- Not all of them are labelled as such. The range is built as a rawhide-free alternative using vegetables and proteins, but that is not automatically the same as grain-free — check the specific product's ingredient list to be certain.
- Are SmartBones a good alternative to rawhide?
- Yes, that is specifically what the range is designed for, using digestible vegetable and protein-based centres wrapped around a chicken or beef outer layer instead of animal hide.
- My dog has a grain sensitivity — can they have SmartBones?
- Check the ingredient list on the specific product first, since not every chew in the range is confirmed grain-free. If your dog has a diagnosed sensitivity, it is worth confirming with your vet before introducing any new chew.
- What flavours of SmartBones do you stock?
- Our range includes chicken, beef and sweet potato varieties across a few different sizes and shapes, from sticks to bone-shaped chews. Check the grid above for exactly what's currently available to order.
