Pawz dog boots

Pawz make a thin rubber boot that stretches on over a dog's paw, closer to a waterproof sock than a traditional buckled boot. We stock the boots in a range of sizes, aimed at dogs who need paw protection without the bulk of a hard-soled design.

How the Pawz design differs

Rather than a fabric boot with a strap or zip fastening, a Pawz boot is a single stretchy rubber shell that pulls on and grips the paw through its own elasticity. That means no buckles to fasten and no fabric to soak through in wet or muddy conditions.

The trade-off is flexibility over rigidity: Pawz boots protect against wet, cold, salt and grit far better than they protect against something sharp underfoot, which is where a thicker-soled boot has the advantage instead.

Who they suit

They suit dogs walked regularly in wet weather, on gritted or salted winter pavements, or recovering from a paw treatment where keeping the area dry and clean matters more than tough sole protection. The stretch fit also makes them easier to get an anxious or fidgety dog into than a boot with fastenings.

Correct sizing matters more with this design than with a fastened boot, since a boot that is too loose can work its way off on a walk and one too tight is uncomfortable. Measure your dog's paw rather than guessing from their overall size.

Getting a dog used to wearing them

Most dogs find any boot strange the first few times, and a stretchy rubber boot is no exception — expect some high-stepping or shaking of a paw at first. Let your dog wear them indoors for a few short sessions before the first proper walk.

Putting boots on one paw at a time, with a treat and a calm voice, tends to go better than trying to fit all four in a rush. Patience in the first week generally pays off with a dog who accepts them without a fuss on future walks.

Common questions

How long can a dog wear Pawz boots for?
They are generally fine for the length of a normal walk. For extended wear, check paws regularly for any rubbing or moisture build-up underneath, the same as you would with any boot.
Will Pawz boots stay on during a walk?
A correctly sized boot should stay on well thanks to the stretch-fit design, but a boot that is too loose is more likely to work off, particularly in deep mud or snow. Sizing your dog's paw carefully makes the biggest difference.
Are Pawz boots reusable?
Yes, they are designed to be washed and reused rather than disposed of after one wear, though how many uses you get depends on the surfaces your dog walks on and how careful they are with them.
Do Pawz boots protect against sharp objects?
Not as well as a thicker, hard-soled boot. They are better suited to protecting against wet, cold, salt and grit than against something genuinely sharp underfoot, so a dog walking regularly on rough ground may do better with a firmer-soled design instead.
